TRAVEL - HOSPITALS OUTWITH ORKNEY

From 1st July patients who have hospital appointments outwith Orkney should contact The Balfour’s Travel Admin Department to make travel arrangements.

Travel Admin can be contacted by:-

Email: ork.traveladmin@nhs.scot

Telephone: 01856 888045

In person at Balfour Reception

Patients will be asked for proof of appointment when making a booking which can be done by email, face to face or shown to staff at Stromness Surgery.

PRESCRIPTION PHONE LINE

We now have a dedicated telephone line for repeat prescriptions.  The telephone number is 301130.  We only now accept requests through this number or the online system.  Please do not hand prescription request forms into the surgery, the pharmacy or attend the practice in person.  Please allow 4 days for your prescription to be processed.  If you want your prescription to be sent to Boots in Kirkwall, please allow 7 days.  We appreciate your co-operation.

DIRECT ACCESS TO PHYSIOTHERAPY

Chris, our Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner, now offers first contact physiotherapy appointments for people with musculo-skeletal problems as an alternative to GP appointments .  These clinics are on a Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning and appointments can be booked by contacting the surgery or using the online appointments system.  When you phone for a GP appointment the receptionist will ask whether your appointment is for a muscle, joint or bone problem so that you can be booked into one of these appointments, if you wish.

Public Holidays

The surgery will be closed for Public Holidays on the following days:-

Monday 30th September 2024

Wednesday 25th December 2024

Thursday 26th December 2024

If you need a doctor urgently, please phone NHS24 on 111.

NEW 111 PHONE NUMBER FOR NHS24

The NHS 24 telephone number 08454 24 24 24 has now changed to a free, easy to remember number.  You will be able to call NHS 24 free simply by dialling 111.

SHARED INFORMATION

Limited information held on you is shared with agencies who may need to be involved in your care, for example the Out of Hours service.  For further information on this, please read the Emergency Care Summary information link on this website.  If you do not wish this information to be shared, please contact the practice.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

If you wish to collect your repeat prescription from the Surgery, rather than the Chemist, please leave 24 hours before collection.  The Chemist in Stromness has requested that patients leave 4 days between requesting a repeat prescription and collecting it from the Chemist.  If you want your prescription to go to Boots, please leave 7 days for them to process it.

COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK

If you leave feedback on the website, please remember to include your name.  If you do not do this, we are unable to investigate any problem you may have had with the service or take measures to ensure that the problem doesn't happen again.  Please note that your IP address will be sent with your communication and in rare cases where malicious or libellous comments are made, this may be used by the authorities to trace you.

TEXT MESSAGING

We are now using text messaging for contacting patients to make appointments for chronic disease reviews (eg asthma, diabetes, hypertension etc).  If you would be happy with us contacting you in this way, please email your mobile number to us, using the contact form on this website, or leave your number at reception.  If you would prefer us not to contact you by text, please also let us know.

SURGERY BOOKS AND EQUIPMENT - PLEASE RETURN

If you have a home blood pressure monitor, nebuliser or treat your own neck or back book, which you may have forgotten to return to the surgery, please would you return it as soon as possible.
